The Chairman of Portugal’s Medical Association will be back on the 19th and 20th of February to visit some of the health centres and hospitals under the Hospitals of the Algarve management structure.
On 19 February, José Manuel Silva will visit the president of the Regional Health Authority, Faro Hospital, Faro Health Centre, Loulé Health Centre, and the Department of Medicine at University of Algarve followed by a meeting at the headquarters of the District Council of the Medical Association of the Algarve in Faro about the ‘State of Health in Portugal.’
On the 20th, Silva moves to the western Algarve to visit Portimão Hospital, followed by visits to the health centres in Portimão and Silves.
During the last visit to the Algarve José Manuel Silva announced that the beleaguered President of the Board of the Hospital of the Algarve, Pedro Nunes, will be subject to an investigation by the Medical Association’s disciplinary council, following derogatory statements he made to local news service Sul Informacao about doctors on his staff.
These statements formed the basis of a letter sent to the President of the Board of the Hospital of the Algarve Pedro Nunes, the Minister of Health and the Algarve’s councils and was signed by hundreds of doctors and health workers at the three Algarve hospitals under Nunes's management.
