August is just around the corner and temperatures are predicted to increase sharply next week with some inland regions being hit with 40°C or more.
The IPMA weather service says that a mass of super-hot air from the Spanish interior will affect mainland Portugal from the end the week and may trigger an official heatwave in the early days of August.
The Algarve is saved from the country's top temperatures with the heat reaching 40°C only in regions such as Mirandela, Bragança, Vila Nova de Foz Coa, Guarda, Idanha-a-Nova, Castelo Branco and Mourão in Évora.
At the beginning of August, next Wednesday, a high of 29°C degrees is expected in Porto, 30°C in Faro and 31°C in Lisbon while Trás-os-Montes should be the hottest region, well into the 40s.
As we sit and wait, temperatures should remain a far more tolerable 26°C along the coast and 30°C in the interior until next week's inevitable rise.
The Algarve’s daytime peaks will be between 30°C and 32°C for at least the next week, nighttime lows of 18°C to 20°C, with absolutely zero chance of rain.
The Algarve’s west coast will be between 25°C and 26°C during the day for the next week, with occasional clouds some days but nothing to worry about.
The UV level is currently at a maximum 10, so seek shade and apply sun-block.
