Tourist transport vehicle crash blocks Algarve's motorway

INEM125An accident blocked the Algarve’s Via do Infante motorway this morning, leaving three people injured, two of them seriously.

The crash at 11:45 on Monday morning left the Faro-bound lane blocked after a tourist transport vehicle was involved in a collision with a lorry at the Areeiro tunnel near Loulé.

The driver of the tourist transport vehicle suffered injuries, as did the two British women being taken to the airport. All three were transported to Faro Hospital where two of them were said to be in a serious state: one of the British tourists and the driver.

The road was cut off as emergency services dealt with the injured and removed the wreckage.

The GNR said the victims were all in a tourist transport vehicle, owned by a company that regularly takes tourists to and from Faro airport.

The motorway was reopened at around 1pm and the long line of traffic started to move again.
