The occupancy rate across the Algarve’s hotel sector continues to disappoint, with July coming in below the hoped for level.
The average room occupancy rate in the region’s hotels was 83.8% in July, down 3.9% from the same period last year, according to the Algarve’s hoteliers’ association.
It’s the British letting the figures down with a 10.3% drop with the Irish numbers even more concerning at 11.2% down.
On the plus side, according to the association, its members took more money as prices have risen, bringing an increased turnover of 3.5% which, at the end of the day, is what it's all about as long as increased turnover means increased profitability.
Recent July figures have the best for 15 years with July 2016 (87.3%) and 2017 (87.2%) creating a hard act to follow.
The best July was back in 1999, with an occupancy rate of 90%.
