Silves man found dead with deep head wounds

PJBadgeSilves Police officers are investigating the violent death of a local man, found dead near to his hut by the Arade river.

Jose Martins Nunes, 57, known locally as 'Zé Prego', was found with five deep head wounds.

Zé's body was discovered last Saturday at around 12 o'clock near the small house where he lived with a friend.

A team of firefighters from Silves was called to help him but Nunes was declared dead by an INEM doctor who attended.

The GNR then was called but the team immediately called the Police as it was pretty clear that Nunes had been attacked.

His friend, João Carrilho, has been questioned by Police investigators and assured them that he had left the house before José Nunes that day and had not opened his door or disturbed him because he "used to go to sleep at around 06:00."

Carrillho said he was "surprised" when the GNR informed him of his friend's death.

According to João Carrilho, the victim used to "drink a load of wine before going to help cars park, next to the church" and habitually got home at around dawn.

The investigation continues.
