The Algarve and lower Alentejo region’s Sul Informação online news service has signed a deal with Jornal de Notícias in which the two publications will share selected news content.
In a meeting in Porto, other media (news, TV and radio), one from each region in the country, also signed up to the new News Network.
Elisabete Rodrigues, director of Sul Informação, stressed the importance that the exchange of content will have for the news service.
The agreement means that Jornal de Notícias may use Sul Informação’s content on its website, printed edition or in its e-paper version – and vice-versa.
A ‘news sharing’ test period is over after a month’s trial. This now has been formalised and readers of Sul Informação’s stories on Jornal de Notícias will be able to read a couple of paragraphs and then invited to click through.
It is envisaged that the partnership will develop, with joint events and publications.
Afonso Camões, director of Jornal de Notícias, commented, "There are two key words that characterise this path: partnership, because that's what we are, partners, and sharing.
“We will share content, namely text, reports, chronicles and videos – lots of videos. We want these regional media businesses to be an extension of Jornal de Notícias and for us to be an extension of our regional partners."
