A wildfire this afternoon near Rogil, Aljezur, is being dealt with by over 200 fire service personnel as strong winds push the fames across forested countryside.
The alert was given at 1:20 pm. the fire had started on land the between Feiteira Industrial Zone and Rogil. Firefighters from several stations soon were dealing with a blaze that had spread to pine trees and scrub near Carrascalinho, Rogil.
By 4pm the fire was developing on two fronts and the EN120 road was cut off at Aldeia Velha.
Half an hour later, Civil Defence reported that a total of 241 operational and support staff were being helped by 6 airborne water carriers, two airplanes and three helicopters,
The fire was downgraded from active to under control, with firefighters remaining in the zone to tackle any re-ignitions.
