The summer and winter clock changes are to stay as they are, after a report from the Lisbon Astronomical Observatory (OAL) last August this week was endorsed by the prime minister.
António Costa said in an interview with TVI, "I see no reason to contradict science. I think the good and only criterion is the criterion of science and what has been expressed up to now by the competent authority, which is the Lisbon Astronomical Observatory."
According to Costa," the understanding is that in Portugal we will maintain the summer time and winter time clock changes.”
The two schedules are beneficial as people can enjoy more hours of sunshine. Concerning sleep disturbance caused by changing the clocks, "they are not significant," concludes the OAL report.
The PM has stated that October and March will remain as the traditional changeover months.
This time change is being discussed at European Community level and the EC is asking the 28 member States to give their opinions.
The majority of governments are in favour of keeping things just as they are.
