Monchique fire fighters rushed to help their neighbouring colleagues in Odemira as a fire tore through an area of eucalyptus.
Four firefighters from the Odemira bombeiros suffered minor injuries on Thursday, after one of vehicles overturned.
Beja District Relief Operations Command said the four firefighters were assisted at the scene of the crash by the emergency medical and resuscitation team from Albufeira.
Subsequently, three firefighters were transported to the Odemira Health Centre and one to the Barlavento Hospital in Portimão.
According to a local, Carolina McClintock, the forest fire tore through a eucalyptus forest in the parish of Santa Clara-a-Velha between the eponymous village and Nave Redonda.
The fire alert was given at 16:52 on Thursday 14th February, with the fire confirmed as over 19:40.
Combatting the forest fire involved 47 firefighters from the Odemira, Almodôvar, Castro Verde, Vila Nova de Milfontes and Monchique bombeiros, supported by 17 vehicles and a machine to create fire breaks.
