The municipalities of Alcoutim, Tavira and Castro Marim, in the district of Faro, are at maximum risk of fire today, according to the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (PISA).
Also in the Algarve and Alentejo regions, the municipalities of São Brás de Alportel, Loulé, Silves and Portimão are at very high risk of fire, as well as Mértola and Almodôvar in the district of Beja.
According to the Institute, the municipalities in the northern regions in the same situation are Guarda, Celorico da Beira, Pinhel, Trancoso, Ferreira de Castelo Rodrigo, Mêda and Vila Nova de Foz Coa (Guarda district), Sernancelhe, Penedono, Tabuaço, São João da Pesqueira and Tarouca (Viseu), Freixo de Espada à Cinta, Moncorvo Tower, Carrazeda de Ansiães, Alfândega da Fé, Mogadouro, Vila Flor, Vimioso, Macedo de Cavaleiros, Mirandela and Bragança (Bragança), Murça, Alijó and Sabrosa (Vila Real).
However, most of the country is now at moderate or reduced risk of fire, especially the central and western coastal regions, which present the least severe levels of fire risk within the five levels of risk determined by PISA.
Calculations for this risk are derived from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of rain over the last 24 hours.
