A GNR officer was attacked this past weekend, on Saturday March 28, with a bottle to the head while trying to interrupt a party in Carvoeiro, in the municipality of Lagoa, taking place despite the state of emergency imposed by the government.
A GNR Command source informed press that the episode occurred around 8:30 pm. The neighbours called the GNR, warning of the fact that a barbecue was taking place, and one of the two soldiers on patrol who turned up at the family home, on arrival, was beaten with "a bottle of beer on the head", revealed the same source.
The soldier suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to the nearest hospital, "but he is already well". Following the aggression, the patrol was reinforced and two Brazillian men, 22 and 44 years old, father and son, were taken into custody for resisting arrest and assaulting an officer.
The two detainees were eventually released, after their identities were taken, and were obliged to appear this morning at the Silves Court. The case was then brought down to inquiry in the Court of Portimão.
Last night, also in Lagoa, but within the city itself, two other men were arrested. The men were reportedly attacking each other on a public road until the fight was broken up by GNR soldiers.
