Dr Photo - 'GREEN PASSPORT' TO COME IN TO FORCE BEFORE THE SUMMEREuropean authorities will present the “green passport”, a health certificate that aims to facilitate travel within the European Union before summer holidays, on WednesdayThe measure was announced this Sunday by European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton.

"We are working to get this done before June," said Thierry Breton, adding that it is essential to do everything possible to "preserve the tourist season".

According to the European commissioner, "the green passport" will be "in electronic or paper format", to respect people who "do not want" to put this information on their smartphone, arguing that "it is a right". The draft certificate will contain "information that will indicate whether a person has been vaccinated against Covid-19, has already recovered [from the disease] or has had a negative test result," said Thierry Breton, quoted by the France Press agency.

The initiative had already been presented at the beginning of the month by the European Commission, to allow resumption of travel during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic, proving vaccination or recovery from the disease. The information was provided by the president of the community executive, Ursula von der Leyen, who guaranteed, at the time, that the certificate “will respect data protection, security and privacy”.

The idea of creating a digital certificate to allow the recovery of the travel and tourism sector started to be discussed at the beginning of the year.
