In a big vote of confidence in the Algarve as a top destination, British Airways has reopened the Faro to Heathrow route and is increasing its Faro to Gatwick frequency to twice daily.
The Faro to Gatwick route has been limited to one flight per day for the past two years, reflecting the drop in demand during the crisis and competition from lower priced airlines.
The Faro to Heathrow route was halted over ten years ago and will be welcomed by many passengers heading for London who have had to fly to Gatwick and pay £35 for the Gatwick express, sometimes more than the cost of the flight.
The inaugural flight today offered regional snacks on arrival, and on departure a toast to the resurrected route.
To start with the direct flight to London Heathrow will be twice a week, on Saturdays and Sundays, using one of the British Airways A320 aircraft.
The new route, according to the French owners of the airport operator ANA, the service from British Airways is, "a very positive sign, since the company stopped this service more than a decade ago."
