Observant GNR officers from São Bartolomeu de Messines, Silves, made an arrest yesterday morning and subsequently charged a 54-year old with burglary.
The GNR patrol was bimbling along the countryside lanes when it spotted a vehicle that it had been interested in for a while, followed it for a while, and then pulled it over near Nora to ask what was going on.
The occupant, a woman, had in fact just finished turning over a nearby apartment and had hidden the swag under some blankets in the back of the car.
Unable to explain where the goods had come from and why they were in the back of the vehicle, she came clean and said she had just pinched them, also that her brother helped him on the job but had legged it.
The police went to the unoccupied property and found that entry had been forced and the interior suspiciously empty.
The police have impounded the vehicle and a bizarre assortment of items including aluminum doors, a dishwasher, stainless steel taps, a fan, a pressure washer, cutlery, a wheelbarrow and various tools, a jemmy and a frame to transport bicycles, none of which he could account for.
