Kite surfer dies in the Ria de Alvor in Portimão

Dr Photo - KITE SURFER DIES IN THE RIA DE ALVOR IN PORTIMÃOA 59-year-old kite surfer died yesterday afternoon at the Alvor estuary, in Portimão, after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest while kite surfing.

In a statement, the National Maritime Authority states that the alert was received at 18:37, through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisbon), and the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Portimão was immediately activated via an Amarok vehicle from the "SeaWatch Project" and the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM).

“The friends who were with the victim realised what had happened and immediately alled 112, having transported the victim by boat to the area where the Alvor fishermen keep their boats", reads the statement.

According to the authorities, the Maritime Police carried out resuscitation using an automatic external defibrillator, which wasthen continued by crews from the "SeaWatch Project" and INEM.

“Despite the efforts of the crews that assisted the victim, it was not possible to reverse the situation, with the death being declared on the spot by the INEM doctor at 19:15”.

The Maritime Police's psychology department is supporting the victim's relatives.
