Yesterday afternoon, the Maritime Police rescued 11 people, including two children, who were launched in to the water from a tourist boat when the boat capsized in a cave next to the Alfanzina lighthouse, in Lagoa.
In a statement released by the National Maritime Authority (AMN), it is stated that "a vessel with 11 people on board had capsized". At 2:12 pm, a boat from Ferragudo Lifeguard Station was immediately activated to the site and another from the local Command of the Maritime Police of Portimão.
"The lifeguards located the 11 people already on land, having rescued them and transported them to the Ferragudo marina, where Lagoa Volunteer Firefighters and a team of the "SeaWatch" Project provided assistance to the victims" , says the statement.
According to AMN, one of the people suffered minor injuries in one of their lower limbs and was referred to hospital.
For reasons of safety for navigation, the maritime-tourist vessel was towed to the marina in Portimão.
