The Chinese citizen, and Golden Visa holder, Xiaodong Wang remains in custody after his detention under a European arrest warrant.
Wang will stay in custody until the end of April as the Chinese authorities now have submitted an extradition request which has been received in Lisbon.
The Lisbon court has until the end of the month to complete the extradition process for the Chinese national who was sentenced by a Chinese court to 10 years imprisonment for fraud and embezzlement.
The receipt of the extradition request means that Xiaodong Wang stays put in Lisbon. He already has started legal moves to remain in Portugal and will have a second hearing and will be allowed a period within which to submit written reasons why he should not be sent back to China to start his sentence.
According to the European arrest warrant, Wang fraudulently appropriated 12 million yuan (€1.17 million) and used some of this money to buy a luxury property in Cascais, thus qualifying him for a cherished Golden Visa which he received before the arrest warrant was issued.
