TAP airline struggles to make it on time

tap2TAP flights have been shown to be the second least punctual of the 35 compared by the Civil Aviation Authority.

Monarch Airlines’ record shows it to be the carrier with the most delays.

The average delay on TAP was 16.8 minutes, while the average for Monarch was 18 minutes.

According to the report from the website flightontime.info, both TAP and Monarch had the most delays of longer than an hour, with 6.7% of Monarch’s flights being this late and 6.5 % of TAP’s.

Only 70% of TAP flights experienced delays of less than 15 minutes, which is the cut-off point that the CAA uses to declare a flight "on time”.

The league table compared the average length of delays over the last three years. It considered 35 major airlines.

BMI Regional was the most punctual, with 92% of flights considered on time with an average delay of only 5.5 minutes and more than an hour’s delay on just 2.2% of flights. It is the ninth consecutive year for BMI Regional to hold this spot.

BMI’s good record was followed by BA City Flier and KLM. BA City Flier saw 89.6 of flights arrive on time and KLM 88.3 per cent.

And what of the much discussed Ryanair, you ask. According to the research 84% of its flights in and out of the UK last year were on time, placing it eighth in the table.

The research considered both arrival and departure times from UK airports in 2013. The number of flights, therefore, varied considerably as British airlines had far more than carriers from other nations.

Monarch, for example, had 29,606 flights under the microscope compared to just 7,928 from TAP.
