The GNR have issued a new warning about PHISHING (SMS) messages, since an increased number have recently been reported.
"Phishing" scams are being sent via SMS text messages that contain fraudulent links, typically from delivery companies. The links included redirect the victim to installing fraudulent Android applications, QR codes and infect the operating system of the devices.
The GNR is closely monitoring the increased incidence of this type of crime being reported, and advises the following:
- Do not click on links whose origin is unknown
- Ensure your Android device is set up to not allow installation of applications from unknown programmers
- In case the user clicked on the link without installing anything, change your personal passwords, for your safety
- If for some reason you clicked on the link and installed the app, it is strongly recommended that you do a factory reset, or restore from a backup prior to the frauulent installation.
