The body of a man, around 40 years old, was found on Ponta Ruiva beach, in Vila do Bispo yesterday according to Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã.
“The body could be that of an Austrian man who disappeared on Thursday afternoon, on Bordeira beach, in Aljezur. The distance between the two beaches is 15 kilometres. The body was already in a high state of decomposition," says the report.
On Thursday afternoon last week, an Austrian man was rescued ashore by surfers who were nearby, after having difficulties in the water and going into cardiac arrest, on Bordeira beach, Aljezur. Resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful, but death was declared on the spot by the attending INEM doctor.
According to the National Maritime Authority, searches by the Maritime Police of Lagos, the “SeaWatch” Project of Lagos and of Portimão and the Volunteer Firefighters of Aljezur were started for a second victim, a man also of Austrian nationality, who had also been in the water but disappeared. However, the second man was not found. It is thought the body found yesterday could be this second victim.
