A Brazilian passenger was caught smoking on board the TAP aircraft, travelling from Porto to Rio de Janeiro.
The passenger is reported to have insulted, argued and allegedly attacked a member of the crew, who warned him of the danger of what he had just done. One of the main risks of smoking on board an airplane is the possibility of starting a fire. The crew seized the individual's passport, and the individual was tied up by the crew and some passengers, in accordance with the rules and to ensure the safety of everyone on board.
TAP has justified that crew acted in accordance with the rules to ensure the safety of everyone on board. Contacted by SIC news, a spokesperson for Portuguese airline TAP clarified that “our crews are trained to carry out the necessary and appropriate actions, always in compliance with applicable procedures, regulations and laws, to ensure that all passengers comply with the rules of conduct and safety on board” .
On arrival at Rio de Janeiro, the man was handed over to the police authorities.
