A one year old child became ill in the water yesterday afternoon, at Três Castelos beach in Portimâo, having suddenly gone into convulsions.
The mother, who was swimming with her baby, quickly carried the child out of the water and was assisted by nearby lifeguards and beach-goers, until the arrival of INEM and the Portimão Volunteer Firefighters.
The alert was made at 14:35, via 112, informing that there was a child with convulsions on the beach. TeamS from the local Maritime Police of Portimão, the National Maritime Authority “SeaWatch”, as well as Portimão Volunteer Firefighters and INEM were immediately dispatched to the scene.
The Maritime Authority stated that “Upon arrival at the beach, it was found that the victim had been pulled out of the water by the mother and assisted by lifeguards and people who were nearby, until the arrival of INEM and the Portimão Volunteer Firefighters".
The child was later transported to the local hospital, in a stable condition.
