A Portimão City Council employee died yesterday morning when he was run over by a forklift that was maneuvering in the Portimão Arena.
According to Portimão's mayor, Isilda Gomes, Mr. Arlindo had worked for several years in the municipality and was preparing to enter retirement next month.
The 64-year-old municipal employee is reported to have been was operating a forklift machine in Portimão Arena when he got stuck between a beam and the vehicle, which caused his death.
“The circumstances in which the accident occurred are being investigated, which we regret and are deeply dismayed by”, said the mayor.
As it was a work accident, the Authority for Working Conditions (ACT) was called to the scene, along with the Judiciary Police (PJ).
Relief operations also involved elements from the Portimão Volunteer Firefighters, the Portuguese Red Cross, the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) and the PSP.
