A baby girl was born in a car in the parking area of Faro Hospital, outside the Emergency Room, at around 19:30 on Monday evening.
The husband had decided to put his pregnant wife in his own car and drive to Faro Hospital because there was no ambulance available.
According to the report in Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã, “the woman lives in the Picota area of Loulé, about 26 kilometres from Faro. When 112 was called, the Center for Guidance for Urgent Patients (CODU) had difficulties in finding an ambulance available to ollect the pregnant woman, and ocould only call the Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle (VMER) instead”.
The baby was delivered inside the couples vehicle, at the door of the Faro Emergency Department, “with first aid being carried out by technicians from an INEM ambulance and by the VMER team”.
The newborn and mother are both in good health.
