Tourists arriving at Faro airport from August 9th to 12th, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, will be offered free Algarve oranges by Turismo do Algarve and the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Algarve.
The campaign will involve the distribution of a tonne of oranges, with the support of a regional producer and Faro Airport.
Today, the 9th, at 9:30 am the president of Turismo do Algarve, João Fernandes, and the deputy regional director for Agriculture and Fisheries of the Algarve, Mário Dias, attended the distribution of orange bags to tourists in the airport arrivals area.
The citrus fruit of the Algarve is a “business card” for the region. It was the first regional product with a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), obtained in 1994, and the Algarve holds the title of main citrus fruit producer in the country.
It is estimated that, in the Algarve, citrus fruits occupy an area of around 16 thousand hectares and that production exceeds 350,000 tonnes per year.
