Algarve - Vila Joya 22nd best restaurant in the world

vilajoyaThe restaurant at the luxury Vila Joya hotel in Galé, Albufeira climbed 15 places in the Restaurant Magazine listings.

The magazine announced the final list of the world’s best restaurants on Monday night in London.

The ranking is formed from the votes of 900 experts who choose the seven best restaurants in which they have eaten in the past 18 months.

Vila Joya was the only Portuguese restaurant on the final selection and it had climbed 15 places this year to 22nd place in recognition of Austrian chef Dieter Koschina’s dedication to keeping his customers satisfied. In 2011 Vila Joya was in 79th position but rose to 37th place last year.

Vila Joya is one of two Portuguese establishments with a two star Michelin Guide rating and this year received ‘three suns’ (três sóis) in the 2014 edition of the Guia Repsol.

The best restaurant in the world, due to the closure of Spain’s El Bulli, was the Noma in Denmark where chef, René Redzepi, won the award in 2010, 2011 and 2012. After losing out in 2013 to the Spanish restaurant El Celler de Can Roca he is now back at the top, with El Cellar as number two..

The most awarded restaurant is of course Ferran Adrià’s El Bulli in Roses, Barcelona, which won in 2002, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Wailing swept the gastronomic world when Adrià decided to close the restaurant three years ago. The new Ferran and Albert Adrià restaurant in Barcelona, Tickets, already appears in 57th place http://www.ticketsbar.es/web/
