Portuguese authorities have seized a “considerable amount of cocaine” that was shipped from Uruguay to Portugal, hidden in surfboards.
In an international operation called “Operation Iris”, to combat drug trafficking, the Judiciary Police, together with the authorities of Uruguay, Italy and Spain, discovered the drugs which had been shipped by air cargo from Uruguay to Portugal.
A considerable amount of cocaine had been carefully concealed in six surfboards.
In addition to the seizure of the drug, three men were arrested, on strong suspicions of being part of a criminal group dedicated to cocaine trafficking between Latin America and the European continent.
Two of the arrests took place in Portugal. The third took place in Italy, on an international arrest warrant issued by the competent Uruguayan authorities.
Investigations continue.
