The new sustainable, luxury Verdelago Resort opens on July 4th after more than 20 years 'on hold', with the aim of attracting lovers of sustainable tourism and the exclusivity of 5 star hotel services.
Located on the seafront, between Praia Verde and Altura, in Castro Marim. Verdelago Resort is a project by Verdelago - Sociedade Imobiliária, SA, a company that develops real estate and tourism projects, whose majority stake is held by Fundo Aquarius, FCR, managed by Oxy Capital.
The project, which after more than 20 years delay, gained a new life under the new management of Oxy Capital, now sees the light of day.
The resort, 500 meters from the beach, is surrounded by an extensive pine forest, and will have, in addition to its luxury accommodation, an exclusive club that includes "Salicórnia" – a restaurant with an open kitchen, two bars (indoor and outdoor) with cocktails subscription, in addition to an infinity pool and an open market with locally-sourced organic products.
The tourist project is surrounded by extensive green areas and 2 km long wooden walkways, which take guests to the observation towers, with a 360º view of the surroundings. In addition to these features, there is the Wellness Dome, a complex with several multi-sports fields (2 tennis courts, 4 padel courts, 1 soccer field, 1 sand volleyball court, foot volleyball court and beach soccer), a pumptrack for BMX / BTT, several pedestrian and cycle paths of about 7 km through cork oaks and pine trees, temporary ponds and a lagoon, family support services (Kids Club and babysitting), a swimming pool in the central area of the resort, and in the future, an orchard and a vegetable garden with local products and a riding arena with horses for rides within the development.
Added to this is security, privacy, a wide range of exclusive and concierge services and the informal luxury provided by the interior decoration designed by Dexter Moren (currently Studio Moren) and Sofia Andrez (currently Andrez & Andrez ).
Of its 86 hectares of land, only 8.7% are occupied by buildings, the rest are vegetation and include a green park for recreation and leisure with around 42 hectares, a nature reserve in front of the sea with 24 hectares, areas of environmental interpretation, habitat conservation and promotion, and a 2-hectare lake. The temporary ponds are in charge of CMAR (Centre of Marine Sciences of the University of Algarve) and the forests of 2 B Forest, while the fauna and flora are ensured by the Vita Nativa Association. Verdelago Resort is also the first tourist resort in the country to adhere to the Green Globe certification, one of the most demanding international certifications for sustainable tourism, affiliated with the United Nations Tourism Organization.
By the end of this year, the construction of a 5-star hotel, with an international seal, with 197 rooms, is scheduled to start. In total, over a period of 7 to 10 years, the resort will have more than 2000 beds, including 340 tourist residential units.
The Verdelago Resort expects to create 600 direct and permanent jobs, primarily for those from the region, "promoting the dynamization of the local economy and the fight against unemployment."
Prices for the current two and three bedroom accommodations start at €760 per night.
