The Pediatric Emergency department at Faro hospital is closed this Tuesday until midnight, due to the lack of doctors.
The most serious patients will be forwarded to the Hospital de Portimão, sadid the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve (CHUA), Ana Varges Gomes, meaning if you live in Tavira or VRSA, you will have to travel up to 120km to reach the pediatric emergency room.
“With the difficulty of human resources, we have to have options and at least one answer in the region”, said Ana Vargues Gomes to journalists, after a visit by the Parliamentary Health Commission, destined to assess the conditions for treating residents and tourists during the summer.
The CHUA president said that the SNS executive committee had adopted the “principle that Pediatric Emergency is guaranteed”, whether in Faro or Portimão.
