The goal is to promote the country as a top surfing destination. Turismo de Portugal has signed a contract with the Hawaiian-based surfing celebrity Garrett McNamara.
The institution will pay €61,500 for the rights to use McNamara’s name and image.
This collaborative project centres around a series of 14 promotional videos featuring Portugal’s coastline to show the world the quality surfing available in the country. The videos will be on the internet and promoted through social networks.
The contract was signed in March with Proff Mac, based in Florida, USA, and includes an obligation for McNamara or his representatives to be present and to promote Portugal at international events related to tourism, such as at the recent FITUR tourism exhibition in Madrid where the surfer gave press interviews.
Turismo de Portugal is hoping that McNamara’s epic, record-breaking journey on the largest wave ever surfed in Nazaré will bring surfers from around the world to attempt to beat his record.
