An employee at a used car sales stand in Dublin, Ireland, took holiday without proper authorisation and unfortunately bumped in to one of the company directors in a bar in Albufeira.
Gary Maloney, the employee in question, accuses the company of having fired him as soon as he returned to work.
Gary says he requested holiday time in July and it was approved by the company's commercial director, David Griffin.
Mr Griffin however, states that he never approved the request. The reason for not doing so is that he wanted the entire sales team to be working, as both he and the other company director would be out of the country for a family wedding, in Albufeira. Gary Maloney was of course unaware of this!
Gary unexpectedly met Robert Griffin, the other director of the company in question, in a bar in Albufeira. The employee took a picture with Robert Griffin, who sent it to a colleague, and the selfie ended up being seen by David Griffin, who arrived in Albufeira the next day and saw the worker in a restaurant, but did not approach him.
Gary's absence, according to David Griffin, resulted in significant losses for the company, including the cancellation of a sale worth €60,000.
When Gary returned to work, he was fired, however, he took the case to court as he considered that the dismissal was carried out illegally, without him being given the chance to defend himself.
