The newly constructed section of the Ecovia de Silves, from Armação de Pêra to the east end of Praia Grande, will be officially opened on May 10th, at 6pm.
In a statement released by the Chamber of Silves, the project is said to represent an investment of 1.6 million euros, supported by community funds, which the Ciclovia / Ecovia do Litoral Sul operation and the Sustainable Urban Mobility Action Plan (PAMUS).
Around 3.4 km long, the the infrastructure encompasses a section that extends parallel to the dunes of Praia Grande (Pêra), starting at the eastern tip of Armação de Pêra, and crosses the Ribeira de Alcantarilha, joining the existing walkway at Lagoa dos Salgados.
"This is an investment that, in addition to representing another point of tourist interest, will also benefit the local community, not only in the area of leisure, but also by shortening the distance between the town of Armação de Pêra and the municipality of Albufeira, promoting the use of non-polluting means of travel, such as cycling", says the statement.
