According to figures from the Algarve Hotels and Tourist Enterprises Association - AHETA, hotels and rental properties in the Algarve recorded occupancy rates much the same as that seen in the same month of 2023.
The monthly bulletin published by AHETA confirms that the room occupancy rate for July this year was 83.6%, -0.3% on 2023. The markets that recorded the highest year-on-year growth were Sweden (+0.8pp), the Netherlands (+0.4pp), and Germany, with +0.3pp. The number of French tourists visiting was down -0.6pp.
Occupancy by national Portuguese tourists was down -2.3pp, but despite the decline, the Portuguese continue to be the main market, both in terms of number of overnight stays and guests, in July in the Algarve.
The average stay was 4.9 nights, 0.2 more than the same month last year, and the longest average stays were from the Irish, staying 6.9 nights, the Belgian at 6.5 nights, and the Swedish market, with 6.4 nights.
