Two German tourists who went on a hike in Madeira’s mountains have been found dead at the bottom of a ravine.
A rescue team of firemen, volunteers and Public Security Policemen found the bodies on Sunday. The couple, in their 60s, had been missing since Wednesday 4th June.
The man was the first to be found by searchers and the woman was found shortly afterwards, according to a source from the Regional Civil Protection Service.
The bodies were lying in a ravine about 100 metres below a footpath between Babosas and Bom Sucesso, near the village of Monte, in the Funchal council area.
The couple sensibly had informed hotel reception staff of their hike and the route that they would be taking and the alarm was raised on Thursday moring when it was discovered the couple had not returned.
The Germans had arrived at Madeira last Tuesday for a one week stay.
