The most popular car journey in Britain is the A470 which takes in Snowdonia National Park and the Brecon Beacons.
Roads traversing the Peak District were in second and third place, with the Snake Pass, which bypasses Whinstone Lee, and the Cat and Fiddle Road, worth it just for the names it would seem.
The A87 heading to the Isle of Skye in Scotland and the A591, Kendal to Keswick in the Lake District, completed the top five.
The country’s least favoured road, unsurprisingly, was the M24 in London followed by the Birmingham stretch of the M6.
The survey, conducted for Shell, found that the nation is falling further out of love with motoring for pleasure. One-third of people said they had never driven a car simply for enjoyment, while two-thirds said they did so only a few times a year.
Lack of time, road congestion, bad weather and bad drivers were all blamed.
