The death of comedy actor Rik Mayall is being mourned in the world of film and TV. Mayall’s last role was in a Dutch comedy film beiing shot in the Algarve.
"Escape" has its debut scheduled for April 2015 and is being filmed in the Algarve this May and June. The film is in Dutch and is being shot in various locations in the Algarve around the Carvoeiro, Lagoa and Albufeira.
With full support from the councils and the Algarve Tourist Board the producers say that they are on schedule for launch next April.
The film is based on a novel by local author Hellen Van Royen who has lived in Porches for many years. Since the book was published in 2006 it has sold over 250,000 copies worldwide.
The story is about a woman who decides to make a radical change in her life and comes to the Algarve to escape her mundane existence.
Ric Mayall played the part of a British landlord and it is thought that his role will be able to be portrayed in full.
The film was financed by the contributions of many Dutch and Belgian individuals as well as the Algarve tourism board which will support promotion of the film when completed.
