Blitz Magazine has revealed that Rock Gods, Deep Purple, are recording the follow-on album to ‘Now What?’ the band’s 19th studio album released in April 2013.
The band, formed in 1968, are recording their 20th, as yet un-named album in the Algarve, according to vocalist Ian Gillan, who revealed that, "the whole band is here. We have a studio in the Algarve where we are working on new songs. At night we drink red wine and enjoy the tranquility..."
The legendary singer praised the lifestyle in the Algarve, explaining that he wakes at dawn, mainly due to a local rooster and gets up as the sun rises.
This calm start to the day is mirrored by a calm lead up to bedtime; Gillan says he goes to bed when it gets dark - “it’s a good life down here."
Gillan did not say much more about the album’s progress but said the band will continue to perform live, "I can not imagine the scene without our interaction with the public and, more importantly for me, with musicians."
The band is in the 1975 Guinness Book of Records for performing the loudest concert ever recorded on the planet at the 1972 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre, but now seems that its members need their beauty sleep in the arms of early summer in the Algarve. After 100 million album sales, what's left to achieve but a good night's sleep?
