GNR pounce on drug greenhouse after 6 months of surveillance

cannabisGNR officers have arrested three suspected drug producers and uprooted eight cannabis plants as evidence of this evil trade.

Three men were arrested and charged with drug trafficking from a property in Algoz, Silves at which was found a greenhouse, eight plants and a haul of 54 grams of dried cannabis leaves.

The operation, carried out by the Center for Criminal Investigation of the Territorial Detachment of the GNR in Silves, had been planned for about six months. No indication has been offered as to the costs involved.

In addition to the plants and cannabis leaves, the GNR also seized cannabis seeds, a digital scale and two mobile phones.

This is the sixth arrest related to cannabis growing that GNR officers have made this year in the Algarve and it is unlikely to have any significant impact in the production of home-grown cannabis, the sale of which now is officially part of the nation’s GDP.
