A man posing as a tourist from the UK has been using a pension in Lisbon as a base and travelling to the Algarve on numerous occasions to break into hotel rooms in the Algarve.
Three hotels in Albufeira were targeted by the 36-year old crook who has previously been up to the same tricks in Ibiza and Malaga in Spain.
He finally was nabbed by GNR officers in Albufeira after some tourists were offered recently stolen goods for sale, their own.
"The victims identified a man in the street carrying two backpacks which looked suspiciously like their own, so they alerted a GNR patrol,” according to GNR command.
The burglar was confronted and tried to make a run for freedom, without success.
The GNR recovered many items stolen from tourists staying at the same hotel, including designer clothes, sunglasses and mobile phones, as well as nearly €2,000 and £1,300.
