An Algarve businessman has created a line of golfing accessories in cork, including a hand made golf bag, an Algarve first, which is ecological, waterproof and lightweight.
The range has been designed and produced in the Algarve in Portuguese cork, a 100% natural material, biodegradable but durable enough for a long lifetime, according to creator Nuno Nascimento.
"Foreigners are surprised as they can not believe that cork can be used for things other than stoppers for wine bottles - there is always great curiosity," said the businessman who also is a keen golfer.
Nascimento was brought up in the cork business where he shadowed his grandfather in buying and selling in the industry from the age of 20. Almost two decades later he has combined his hobby with business by starting his own company using locally sourced materials in a market he knows well.
One of Nascimento’s fan’s is Sebastião Gil, a former coach to the Portuguese Golf Federation, who commented that people often do not believe that his golf bag is made of real cork, and ask if they may touch it.
