Left Bloc accuses Prime Minister of lying to the nation

passoscoelho2The Left Bloc said that the Prime Minister’s speech at the Algarve ‘Pontal’ rally held on Friday night contained a long list of lies.

"Pedro Passos Coelho interrupted his holidays to stir up a PSD supporters’ rally and when opening his 2015 election campaign began to lie to the Portuguese," said Left Bloc Political Commission member Pedro Soares.

According to Soares, Passos Coelho "spoke of an economy that does not exist, he told the audience he was engaged in combating favours when we all know that he has pumped billions of euros into a bank with serious problems caused by the greed of its directors, he lied about Social Security, tried to pit youth against pensioners, and children against parents, when we all know that the policy of this Government has been against all of us."

The Left Bloc spokesman said that, "Passos Coelho demonstrated that he has only one concern: to position himself in preparation for the 2015 election by creating the illusion that all is well with the Portuguese, this he can do only by lying.”

Soares added that the Prime Minister avoided talking about the recent Constitutional Court ruling on pay cuts in the public sector and that the PM has a “strange way of looking at equality."

The Left Bloc argues that it is "fundamental" that Social Security "guarantees a life for Portuguese workers" and that social reform "can not be an argument for removing living and working conditions from the Portuguese."
