The GNR decided today to return to the house and garage where the suspected Jihadist, Tiago Marques, kept his arsenal of weapons.
Marques now has claimed to be a follower of Bin Laden and Jihad. He was arrested last week after a firearms incident in Paderne, Albufeira where he fired a weapon into the air from his car.
The 26-year old Marques, better known by his charming nickname ‘Bosta,’ is being held by the authorities as they discuss among themselves which branch will be the lead prosecutor. The Judicial Police are ahead in the running due to the number and type of weapons found in Marques’ garage.
Bosta had a book about Bin Laden at his property and claimed during interview to be a follower of the Islamic Jihad. His arms stash included a Galil automatic rifle with silencer, plus two handguns, a rifle, four pistols, two shotguns, pepper spray, a sword, a dagger, ammunition and a pile of hashish.
A parallel line of enquiry is that Tiago Marques belongs to an Algarve group headed by Fábio ‘the Gypsy’ to whom Marques is related.
Officers from the Judicial Police arrested Fábio earlier this month. He had been on the run for months moving between Portugal and Spain.
Fábio already had been accused of kidnapping, drug trafficking and possession of prohibited weapons used in crimes which were committed between January and June 2014 but was on the run rather than face court.
Fábio is known for violent crimes using weapons and was arrested two weeks ago in the Algarve and awaits sentencing.
