Lonely Planet - Albufeira is top value-for-money destination

Albufeira beachAlgarve is a top destination for families with modest budgets, according to the publisher of the Lonely Planet travel guides, who have picked Portugal as one of its top holiday destinations for 2014 -  with Albufeira the place to be as a family on a modest budget.

"Every year the British Post Office analyses the prices of holiday resorts across Europe. The latest report refers to Albufeira in the Algarve as the cheapest option for a summer vacation for a family."

Portugal may be in the Lonely Planet 2014 list of "best value" destinations but it does point out that "the Algarve at the peak of summer can not please everyone" and that "Portugal is very good for those who are concerned about the budget."

Listed in Lonely Planet under ‘best value for 2014,’ in addition to the Algarve's Albufeira, are the Greek islands, southern Italy, Nicaragua, Bulgaria, Fiji, Ethiopia, Mexico, Karnataka, Southern India and the island of Palawan in the Philippines, impressive competition indeed.
