At the largest tourism fair in the world in London, Lisbon has won the Amadeus & WTM Travel Experience Award to add to an impressive tally of gongs this year as a top ‘value for money’ destination.
Portugal continues to scoop awards as one of world’s destinations with the best quality to price ratio. This time Lisbon was awarded the top spot in this category sponsored by the World Travel Market and the Amadeus group.
The Portuguese capital was one of the ten finalists in the ‘City Break on a Budget’ category "taking into account quality and diversity for short stays" according to a delighted Lisbon Tourism Association.
"Regarding meals, drinks, tours, travel and accommodation, Lisbon costs less than 50% of other European cities" conclude the organisers. "There is much to offer the traveller who cares about the budget, and ease of transport in the city, lots of culture, great monuments, beaches nearby and many free attractions."
Recently, Lonely Planet placed Portugal in its top ten for countries with the best quality to price ratio in 2014, also the users of TripAdvisor voted for Lisbon as having the best hosts in Europe.
The winners were decided by a "panel of experts from the tourism industry."
