Dragons’ Den investors may be regretting their rejection of Wrap it Up!, a ‘natural’ fast-food chain which has McDonald’s, KFC and Burger King on the run.
Wrap It Up! is one of several new “healthy” fast food players which provide alternatives to quick hamburgers and traditional sandwiches. Hot wraps and salad boxes are made to order right in front of the customer.
Popularity has propelled the franchise to open 12 sites in London, with plans for many more.
Turnover galloped ahead by an increase of 50% last year taking it to £2.5m.
“Consumers have never been more knowledgeable about the links between food and health,” said Tayub Mushtaq, the managing director of Wrap It Up!
Mr Mushtaq appeared on the BBC investment programme Dragons’ Den in August last year but was turned down as it was felt the valuation of his business was too high. He asked for £500,000 in return for an 11% stake.
An additional 12 outlets are planned for the capital, but the company has heady plans for continued expansion.
Wrap It Up! is not alone in trying to tap into consumers’ growing quest for healthier food. Leon, Chop’d, and Tossed are also attracting long queues of City workers.
