Amazon to sell food items

amazonAmazon is reported to be branching out further to include its own-brand of food.

Last December the company launched its own-brand, Amazon Elements, which so far offers nappies and baby wipes.

These goods are available only to those who subscribe to its Prime section which has expanded since it began as a subscription to ensure free shipping. Moreover, it does not ship outside the UK.

At the time, it said that other “premium” everyday items, competitively priced, would be added.

Amazon filed for trademark protections for more than two dozen items under its Elements brand earlier this month, including coffee, soup, pasta, water, vitamins, dog food, razors and cleaning products, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The retailer has already been in contact with manufacturers to secure deals in which third parties produce the food but Amazon sells it as its own brand and packaging.

Amazon said in its search for transparency, it would give “an unprecedented level of information” about the origins and contents of its products.
