A kite-surfer has been seriously injured in an accident at the Ria do Alvor between Lagos and Portimão.
The accident happened on Sunday afternoon as strong winds swept across the Algarve and caught the kite-surfer off guard, causing him to lose control of his kite and fall onto rocks causing him serious injury.
The 44-year-old Briton was stabilised by a Bombeiros medical team and had to be taken by stretcher for about a kilometre to a waiting INEM helicopter which took him to Faro hospital where he remains in intensive care.
Management at the hospital has yet to make a statement as to the prognosis, the extent of the man’s injuries and his nationality.
