Half a kilo of cocaine - said to be worth at least €40,000 - was found in the lining of a suitcase belonging to a 28-year-old passenger flying in to Cork, Ireland, from Portugal’s Faro airport.

The haul was discovered as the passenger attempted to clear customs in Ireland.

Details are scarce but it was billed by Cork’s Evening Echo as an “intelligence led operation”.

The “major cocaine seizure” was made on Saturday morning, wrote the paper.

No mention has been made either here or in Ireland of the passenger’s nationality.
