Three people have been badly injured in a head-on collision involving two cars on Saturday morning near Zoomarine, Guia, on the EN125.
Two Swedish tourists in a rental car were in a collision with a BMW driven by a British expat said to be in his 80s.
Eyewitness reports said that the BMW was overtaking on the notoriously dangerous and confusing three lane section on the hill near Zoomarine when it collided with the Seat driven by a Swedish couple in their 70s.
A truck was caught up in the accident but the driver was not injured. Ambulance staff, fire engine teams from Albufeira, Lagoa and Silves, and GNR officers attended the scene and the road was cut for over an hour.
The victims were taken to Faro and Portimão hospitals.
