Portimão cinema reopens in time for Christmas

bollywoodAfter nearly a year the six screen cinema at the Continent Portimão shopping centre reopened last week as a brand new Cineplace.

The new operator Orient Group have taken on 12 people.

The Portimão cinema had been closed since January this year following the insolvency of Socorama Castello-Lopes which operated other cinemas nationally including the multiplex at Algarve Shopping in Guia which managed to reopen in August.

The Orient Group has reopened cinemas in the remaining nine Sonao Sierra shopping centres unbder the Cineplace brand.

The Portimao cinemas have new projection and sound systems for ‘next generation’ digital technology, and new fixtures and fittings such as seats and flooring.

Nelio Gonçalves, the director of the Portimão shopping center said, "it is with great pleasure that we announce the reopening of these cinemas which enables us to offer both retail and cinema once again in Portimão, this an important asset for the city.”

Sonae Sierra and Orient Group announced the new operating agreement this August with refurbished cinemas opening in series and an intention of reopening all of them by the year end.

The Orient Group has been running cinemas in Brazil for over 20 years and in Angola for six years.
